The Issue

Basic Fun has been completely neglecting the skies by including fewer and fewer birds in their recent Littlest Pet Shop waves. In the classic eras, birds were a staple of the franchise, but now they are treated like an afterthought while the slots are flooded with repetitive mammals. Fans are tired of watching avian diversity vanish from store shelves and want the brand to stop ignoring our feathered friends.

To fix this lack of variety, Basic Fun needs to unvault the incredible avian designs that collectors have missed for years. We want to see the immediate return of the elegant G2 Swan, with its graceful silhouette and classic charm. We also demand the return of other highly underrated, beautifully sculpted birds like the majestic Heron and the vibrant Flamingo. These molds brought unique heights, shapes, and tropical colors to our collections, proving that birds can easily outshine a safe, copy-paste rotation of mammals.

Furthermore, it is incredibly disappointing that in over two decades of Littlest Pet Shop history, neither Hasbro nor Basic Fun has produced common backyard birds like robins, crows, and blue jays. These are iconic, universally recognized species that kids and collectors interact with every single day in the real world. Leaving out a clever, highly requested bird like a crow, or beautifully colorful classics like the robin and blue jay, is a massive missed opportunity for relatable, imaginative play.

Why Basic Fun should bring back certain bird molds:

  • Collectors who like to collect birds are often left in the dust by collectors who loudly demand “main fives” and other popular molds.
  • A mommy and baby set including a cygnet (baby swan) or duckling would absolutely melt hearts.
  • It encourages diversity and imaginative play.

Even when Basic Fun does the right thing, they ruin the execution. Elegant, beautifully sculpted bird molds like the Woodpecker have officially been brought back, but they are treated as lazy filler pets by the community because they are thrown into blind boxes or multi packs alongside hyper-popular mammals. To stop this gatekeeping, Basic Fun should introduce bird-only multipacks. Putting our feathered friends into their own dedicated sets ensures that gorgeous avian sculpts get the spotlight, respect, and targeted marketing they actually deserve, rather than being treated as a consolation prize for people hunting for cats and dogs.

Basic Fun has been focusing on meme animal molds but what I have noticed is that almost all of these animals are mammals. An idea for new molds to increase diversity are woodcocks and ptarmigans. Tapping into actual, organic animal lore by giving us a dancing American Woodcock or a chunky Willow Ptarmigan would bring real personality and humor back to the line.

Why Basic Fun should introduce a woodcock or ptarmigan to the line:

  • The woodcock is basically begging to be turned into a bobblehead toy, as its most famous move is rocking its head back and forth.

  • The argument that most collectors will be stumped on what birds these are has been completely disproven with the introduction of the quokka, as it’s a niche animal and most people who are not hardcore animal enthusiasts or are casual LPS collectors do not know what this animal is or have never heard of it, which makes not producing of a woodcock or ptarmigan completely unjustifiable.
  • The argument that a big beak will be top heavy has been absolutely disproven by the Woodpecker, Pelican and Hummingbird lps.

As a lifelong bird enthusiast, seeing these incredible avian species get the representation they deserve in the Littlest Pet Shop universe would be a true dream come true. Birds have so much unique beauty, humor, and charm to offer, and it is time for Basic Fun to realize that the fandom is ready to embrace them. By signing this petition, you aren't just asking for better toys—you are helping to reshape the community into a place that celebrates all animals, not just the overhyped ones. [1]
Ultimately, Basic Fun needs to remember who the true target audience is. Kids love diverse animals, bright colors, and unique creatures from the sky—they do not care about artificial collector hype of “main fives” or repetitive mammal drops. Bring back the birds and restore the true spirit of Littlest Pet Shop!
