Thank you everyone for your signatures so far. We still have a long way to go, so a quick update:
While global news appears to take a surprisingly blasé approach to the concentration camps, the UN has taken note: “UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet is ‘appalled’ at the conditions in which the United States is keeping detained migrants and refugees, including children, her office said in a statement on Monday”, reports Al Jazeera.
So far, we are aware of reports of widespread rape, child abuse, exposure to elements, neglect and malnutrition amongst other serious human rights abuses. Children are dying in these camps, and that’s not all.
I would strongly encourage you to once again share this petition amongst your circle. There needs to be outrage on a political level, we will only attain that with exposure.
I remember at 10 years old being asked what I would do in 1940 Germany, back then our answers were simple: we all promised our teacher this would never happen again. Not on our watch.
I say our answers are simple still:
Silence is tacit compliance.
Never again is now.
