Barricades and Safety Improvements for Airline Hwy
The Issue
Our request is simple--the residents of St. James Parish (and surrounding parishes) would like the Louisiana Dept of Transportation and Development to install barricades and more lighting along Airline Hwy between Gramercy and Gonzales. We want to see a barricade blocking wrecked cars from entering the canal that flows into Blind River, and we would like to see some type of barricade or cable system that prevents wrecked cars from crossing from north bound lanes to south bound lanes and vice versa.
Just this summer alone, two women under the age of 35 years old have lost their lives on this stretch of road, and that leaves me to ask one question: How many people have to die on Airline before our state representatives do anything about this? Lucky for us, Lutcher's very own, Ken Brass, is the Vice Chair of the House of Representatives Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee. It is my hope that Mr. Brass will take this petition and it's signatures to the next committee meeting and speak to his colleagues about our concerns.
