I started this petition because I felt passionately that Barnet Council and Middlesex University’s expansion plans in Hendon – (as detailed in the SPD, Hendon Hub proposal and Local Plan) - should be scaled down as, in their current form, they are to the great detriment of the local community here.

I wasn't the only one. Since then, residents have invited the university and councillors to engage with us, taken part in consultations, attended meetings, filled in feedback forms, written emails and letters, filmed residents expressing their anxieties, organised two well-attended demos and collected 1500 signatures for this library petition.
 
Sadly, the plans were passed with nothing meaningfully scaled down:

Our heritage library is being taken away, community groups are being uprooted and not adequately rehoused and horrible, oversized buildings are being crammed into our historic and residential areas.
 
Therefore, we have finally, and very reluctantly - and at personal cost and risk – made the decision to go to law and challenge Barnet Council, writing to seek a formal response to our arguments that their actions are unlawful.
 
We have had to do this promptly as the law requires. We sincerely hope they will respond positively to the points that have been raised, so that court proceedings can be avoided
