FACES OF THE REALITY OF RHDV2 VIRUS IN AUSTRALIA

Spring is here and with it sadly I have to announce, the start of an even bigger carnage of our domestic rabbits. It was predicted that this Spring we would see a wildfire like spread of RHDV2 and it seems it was a very accurate prediction. Reports of large numbers of domestic rabbits are coming in on a daily basis, sometimes several at once.... Should we be worried? Yes we should, this is an unprecedented epidemic like Australia has never seen before. This rampant virus has NO VACCINE that has any significant efficacy to protect our valued domestic rabbits and pets. This RHDV2 virus is NOT a hundred percent species specific... think about that for a minute or two.... Sadly this virus now encompasses the whole of Australia.. as now West Australia has been invaded by this virus and has already taken a heavy toll on domestic rabbits. One of the heavy losses incurred was on a farm called the Incredible Creatures Mobile Animal Farm and animal actors. They have lost 100 percent of their rabbits.... and are heartbroken as they were all very tame and very popular with the public and much loved by the owners. Unfortunately sad stories like this are being played out as I type across the country. Our only protection is to screen our hutches and areas where they are housed. Rabbits kept in houses are also not immune so make sure homes are screened and keep all flies and insects out to the best our your ability. I want to tell each and every person who is losing their beloved rabbits, my team and I are doing all we can to persuade our government to process vaccine applications as fast as possible. We need this vaccine now, many more will die before we get it and that is heartbreaking. Children with special needs are suffering as some have sadly lost their companion rabbits. Whether you own rabbits or not, please consider signing and sharing our petition and perhaps if possible promote it too. We need to show this government we want this vaccine for RHDV2 and we need it now, before all our beloved pets are lost to us forever.
