Strict action against M L Sharma and A P Singh for their hurtful misogynist statements in India's Daughter a documentary on Nirbhaya
The Issue
As a firm believer of the judiciary and the power of education I am hurt and ashamed of lawyers like M L Sharma and A P Singh for making hurtful and insulting statements about the status of women in the "Indian Culture' which depicts a woman as a 'flower' that is to be the adornment of a home away from the 'thorns' of society.
While supporting and taking stands for their clients is an occupational hazard for lawyers and I understand that but making humiliating statements about women and what is decent behavior is not their prerogative.
Enough, of this false sense of entitlement that men think they are allowed to have just by being born. No woman should think lesser of herself just for living, working, going out after a certain hour or just by being born a woman. And such statements coming from educated men, in an influential position is damaging to society. If lawyers of our country share the same mindset as a rapist, its deeply disturbing.
If enough people sign this I only hope the Bar Council will be forced to move to action. Here is what a senior supreme court advocate KTS Tulsi had to say. He demanded that their licences be suspended. "Shows complete absence of any concern for society. There can't be any justification. A person with this kind of mindset is still a lawyer. It is much more than a crime. The bar council must take cognisance," he said.
