I'm thrilled to share the news that Finance Minister Morneau, when questioned today about the absence of Canadian women on bank notes, responded as follows: “I can say that I would be strongly supportive of a recommendation from the Bank of Canada to put an iconic woman or women on the bank notes.” Media outlets have begun reporting on the story, and Global News contacted me for comments; see full article below. There's also a short article on ipolitics (http://ipolitics.ca/2016/01/13/because-its-2016-women-on-canadian-bank-notes-may-make-comeback-says-morneau/) and Bloomberg Business (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-01-13/put-women-other-than-the-queen-on-canadian-money-morneau-says). But will the Bank of Canada proceed quickly to submit a proposal to the Minister of Finance? At least the announcement from Minister Morneau is encouraging, on the day that our petition reached a significant milestone: 65,000 signatures. Thanks for your support. Let's hope the Bank of Canada will finally commit to celebrating some Canadian heroines, and focus on selecting them.
