Petition updateBank of Canada: Add women from Canadian history to Canadian bank notes

Times Colonist Article and Encouraging Tweets from Ministers

Another article appeared today, including quotes of tweets I received from two federal cabinet ministers. I asked Patty Hajdu, Minister of Status of Women, "Can we count on your support to get Cdn #womenonbanknotes?" She tweeted back "I think we will see more women in all sorts of 'new' places." I also tweeted Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, in French, saying, "Aucune femme de l'histoire du Canada ne figure sur nos billets - c'est inacceptable." (There are no women from Canadian history on our bank notes - it's unacceptable.) Her response on twitter: merci Merna. Nous en sommes bien conscients et y travaillons." (Thanks Merna. We are well aware of this and working on it.) While I haven't yet received responses to my letters to Prime Minister Trudeau, Finance Minister Morneau or Status of Women Minister Hajdu, I was somewhat encouraged by the tweets. But of course I want to hear something I can take to the bank! If you're active on social media and want to help the campaign by tweeting, I tweet with @MernaForster and usually use #womenonbanknotes. Thanks for your support, and thanks to journalist Jack Knox from Victoria for the latest column about Canadian women on bank notes.
