Marvin Rotrand, a member of the Montreal City Council, plans to make a motion in council calling for greater representation of Canadian women on bank notes. In a recent press release, Rotrand indicated he also has the support of other area politicians. These include Mme Manon Barbe, mayor of Lasalle, M. Claude Dauphin, mayor for Lachine, Mme Manon Gauthier, councillor for Verdun, Mme Andrée Hénault, councillor for borough of Anjou, M. Steve Shanahan, councillor for Ville-Marie and M. Jeremy Searle, councillor for Côte-des-Neiges--Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. It's great to see this support for our campaign! Rotrand has issued a press release about his upcoming motion, which he plans to submit on August 17. http://www.newswire.ca/fr/news-releases/egalite-homme-femme---la-monnaie-canadienne-doit-refleter-la-contribution-des-femmes-a-notre-societe-521398181.html As a point of clarification regarding references to the Bank of Canada and the Canadian Mint, I just wanted to mention that the Canadian Mint has issued coins to celebrate Laura Secord, Alice Munro, and FIFA Women's World Cup.
