The Issue

Stop the use of Yondr phone pouches in Cincinnati Public Schools! Yondr pouches hold your phone in a magnetically locked pouch, holding up lines going in and out of school due to every faculty member putting your phone in a bag, which could cause students to be late for any number of things after school, and, in the case of students trying to open the bags with magnets, killing the phones entirely. Yondr pouches do not teach students how to be responsible with their phone, instead they block potentially important texts and calls from families and they do not allow students to use their phone for educational purposes. The CPS District plans to initiate the use of these pouches at Walnut Hills High School, which will magnify aforementioned problems tenfold due to the student body of 2,600, not to mention other large schools in the district already having problems. Yondr pouches are not the answer to phone use in schools, policies are, and teaching proper phone use is more effective than acting like it doesn't exist. To take away a child's ability to communicate with parents, other family, and emergency services, is a disaster waiting to happen, and parents, think for a moment about these policies, think about the inability to communicate with your children, unable to know if they are okay, if they are coming home, unable to tell them something important. If you are currently opposed to the use of Yondr pouches, make your voice heard! Don't just sign petitions, go to school board meetings, reach out to local news, do anything you can!
