Ban unseen poetry from English GCSE’S in British schools
Ban unseen poetry from English GCSE’S in British schools
The Issue
Unseen poetry is a part of the curriculum in GCSEs in Britain. I feel as though it should be banned and potentially replaced with something based around grammar as this is much more essential in the world of work. If this is replaced with a topic more beneficial for children partaking in their GCSEs, the children may feel more inspired to do well in this topic. By their being a clear explanation as to why this is crucial when you leave school, grades will improve and overall morale of these children will improve also. Unseen poetry is overly repetitive and can be very mind-numbing. This repetition can cause lack of engagement in lessons and can cause school children to fall behind. Poetry is very rarely used in day to day life and should be excluded from the school curriculum.
