I am raising a tremendous concern over a global issue that is getting out of hand day by day. I have been noticing recently, particularly on platforms like TikTok, that breeders are exploiting animals for momentary gain when shelters are completely full. It's utterly heartbreaking to realize that approximately 2.7 million healthy adoptable pets just in the United States alone are being euthanized. With this figure including 1.2 million dogs, and 1.4 million cats. And this all because  breeders continue to see them as commodities to be sold like shoes or toys, rather than recognizing them as living beings deserving of compassion and respect. 

Breeding, in its current state, is exploiting animals for financial gain. This raises a significant ethical issue, as it causes pain and suffering to innocent animals who should instead be cherished and loved. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that countless animals are already left homeless, struggling for survival on the streets or awaiting uncertain fates in overcrowded shelters.

The numbers are staggering, and yet the breeding industry continues to thrive. This is partly fueled by a demand for specific breeds, but often at the expense of the animals' well-being. Many bred animals endure health complications, suffer from inbreeding issues, and face abandonment when the novelty wears off or when owners can't handle the specialized care that these breeds require.

We can change this by pushing for stricter regulations on breeding practices. Legislation can be introduced to limit breeding permits, enforce higher welfare standards, and promote stricter penalties for unethical practices. Additionally, promoting the adoption of animals from shelters over purchasing from breeders can help increase awareness and reduce the demand for this exploitative industry.
