Ban Toxic “Forever Chemicals” in US Beauty Products

The Issue

No one should have to worry that their lipstick, moisturizer, or shampoo contains cancer-linked, hormone-disrupting chemicals — but right now, millions of us are being exposed every single day.

A recent industry analysis found that over half of U.S. cosmetics tested contained PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) — also known as “forever chemicals” — which build up in the body, pollute water systems, and are nearly impossible to remove from the environment.

These chemicals have been linked to serious health concerns, including:

Breast and kidney cancer
Infertility and reproductive harm
Hormone disruption
Immune system suppression

Worse, many companies don’t even disclose that PFAS and other toxic additives are in their products — especially waterproof mascaras, long-lasting lipsticks, and haircare products often marketed to women of color.

Enough is enough.

We call on Congress and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to:

  • Ban all PFAS and other “forever chemicals” from cosmetics and personal care products;
  • Enforce mandatory, full ingredient disclosure — no more hidden formulas or umbrella terms like “fragrance”;
  • Create a federal safety review process for all new cosmetic ingredients, just like we already have for food and drugs.

If the European Union can ban these chemicals in beauty products, so can the United States. Consumers deserve better than toxic body products, vague labels, and decades of inaction.

Sign this petition to protect public health and demand safe, PFAS-free beauty products for everyone. Beauty shouldn’t come with a health warning.
