Every day, artists and content creators rely on the integrity and ownership of their original work. This is not just a job for many. It’s a form of self-expression and art. But now this fundamental right is under threat from the Tiktok AI-remix feature.

I am just one of the millions affected by this issue. I posted a video on TikTok, a simple video that I intended to keep private, something personal, but now tiktok can use AI-remix with MY private videos. The work and expression of art, politics, music etc. is no longer under personal control. This is not only a violation of personal ownership but also an existential threat to the work of countless artists and creators.

The Tiktok AI-remix feature allows any content, even those set to private, to be altered by others, stripping creators and everyday users of their rights to their own content. This undermines the personal, often irreplaceable value of digital creativity that exists within our online communities.

World wide Tiktok has atleast 1.5 BILLION active users. Europe has a community of over 200 million Tiktok users, many of whom are dedicated content creators. For an industry that is booming with personal stories, artistic ventures, and unique expressions, there’s a real risk if this ai-remix feature continues as it is.

We have to urge the regulatory bodies and policymakers in Europe to step in. We need a policy that protects the ownership rights of individuals and acknowledges the value of their creative expressions. Content should remain under the control of those who create it, not to be manipulated without their explicit consent with every upload. It needs to be an option to agree, not forced agreement and option to turn the feature off, one video at a time.
