Ban the Use of IXL in Schools Due to Negative Impact on Students
The Issue
I am a student who has personally experienced the negative effects of using IXL, an online learning platform. The platform does not aid in learning but instead fosters a harmful environment that can lead to depression among students. Many students, including myself, have felt belittled and unintelligent due to the grading system used by this program. This feeling is further amplified when teachers give poor grades if assignments are not completed on this platform.
Moreover, it's important to note that IXL has been sued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for discrimination. This lawsuit raises serious questions about the ethics and practices of this company.
In addition to these issues, there is also a financial burden associated with using IXL. It's expensive for schools which then pass on this cost indirectly onto us students by making us use it more intensively.
This situation is unacceptable and needs immediate attention. We need our schools and educators to prioritize effective teaching methods that respect our mental health and promote positive learning experiences rather than relying on harmful platforms like IXL.
It's time we stand up against such practices that harm our educational experience rather than enhance it. Please sign this petition calling for an immediate ban on the use of IXL in schools.
