Stop the use of electric shocks and sensory punishment in ABA therapy!
As you may know, ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) therapy is the leading treatment for autistic individuals. However, when not administered properly, ABA can cause lasting trauma—often for children.
Twenty-five percent of ABA therapists support electrical shock as a punishment for autistic people in the therapy. One-third of therapists support sensory punishment—which is the use of unpleasant smells, textures, sounds, etc. to punish an autistic individual. As you may know, most autistic people have heightened sensitivity to senses, so this is quite abusive.
To improve life for autistic people all across the United States, a federal ban on electric shocks and sensory punishment in ABA therapy, with some exceptions, is needed. Sign this petition if you are ready for structural change for autistic rights in America. Thank you.
