Ban the Scottish Family Party

The Issue

At my school, we have exceptional teachers who identify as non-binary, and they play an integral role in creating a supportive and inclusive environment. Additionally, our Pride Club is a sanctuary for many students, offering a place where everyone, regardless of their gender or sexual identity, can feel accepted and respected. It's this very sense of belonging and safety that we cherish and strive to protect against divisive ideologies that threaten our community’s harmony.

The Scottish Family Party (SFP) openly promotes policies which many perceive as homophobic, transphobic, racist, and misogynistic. This is deeply troubling, particularly when considering the diverse fabric of modern Scottish society that thrives on equality and mutual respect. Their stances directly oppose the values of inclusion and equality that are enshrined in Scotland's progressive ethos and education system.

Evidence of the SFP's harmful rhetoric can be seen in their party manifesto and public statements, which frequently undermine the rights of women, people of colour, and those in the LGBTQ+ community. For instance, their opposition to comprehensive sex education and their stance against same-sex marriage highlight an alarming disregard for equal rights.

Moreover, numerous reports and testimonies from those affected by their policies highlight the emotional and social damage caused by their discriminatory language and perspectives. The Council of Europe recently reported increased hate crimes correlated with discriminatory political narratives, underscoring the real-world impact of such rhetoric.

In a nation that prides itself on its commitment to human rights and equality, it is essential that political entities promoting hatred and bigotry are not given platforms to run for public office. Allowing the SFP to participate as a legitimate political option not only endangers one of the pillars of our democracy, which is inclusivity, but also emboldens prejudice and division.

We urge the Electoral Commission and relevant authorities to review and take action against the SFP's registration as a political party. By banning them from running, we can safeguard our communities, maintain trust in our political system, and affirm our nation's stance against discrimination in all forms.

Sign this petition to stand with us in ensuring our society remains inclusive and free from hateful agendas that seek to divide us.
