The Issue

I write this petition with a heavy heart, born from a tragic event at Edinburgh Zoo. Roxie, an endangered red panda, and her mum, Ginger, have recently passed away. The cause? Fear instilled by the loud and unexpected noises of fireworks.

Fireworks have somehow become a staple of seasons and events, but at what cost? Beyond the bright lights and transient joy they bring to humans, they foster a realm of terror for animals - pets, zoo animals, and wildlife alike. No living being should have to pay the price of human celebration with their life.

Each year, noise from fireworks causes high levels of anxiety and fear in animals, resulting in panic, escape attempts, and unfortunately sometimes death. What's more, according to RSPCA research, 62% of dogs, 55% of horses, and 54% of cats show signs of distress during fireworks (source: RSPCA, "Fireworks Frighten Animals").

We therefore call for a ban on the sale/possession of all non-silent fireworks to the general public! Let's transform our celebrations into an experience that does not involve needless noise and distress to animals. We owe it to Roxie, Ginger, and countless other animals living in perpetual fear around private firework celebrations.

Please, sign this petition and give voice to those who cannot speak for themselves but are affected the most. Let's create a culture of celebration that values all forms of life.
