Our wild and plant life is severely impacted by invasive English Ivy. Here in Northern California, they strangle redwoods, leading to their untimely death. English Ivy covers huge swaths of forest floor, making it a monocrop of undergrowth rather than the biodiverse ecosystem of its origins. When planted in gardens, it get spread far and wide due to birds dispersing its seeds. Several animals are negatively impacted by English Ivy, including owls, ground dwelling birds, and ground-dwelling bees. Furthermore, very few animals benefit from English Ivy, as it provides little sustenance and is toxic to many animals. There are many local conservation groups who are hard at work every week removing Ivy from our forests, but it will remain an uphill battle until we eradicate the sale and distribution of English ivy. I have contacted several of the local nurseries here in Humboldt county, and they are selling English ivy, without any warning about the damage it causes! I know several people who unknowingly purchased English ivy because they liked the aesthetic, without knowing the harm it can cause.  Please sign my petition to keep our forests and wildlife safe by banning English ivy!
