Ban the Production and Sale of Scented Period Products in the US

The Issue

Multiple scientific studies have revealed that scented pads and tampons can cause serious harm to women’s bodies and reproductive health, such as birth defects, infertility and allergic reactions, yet brands like Always continue to sell these dangerous products while knowing the risk to the public. The chemicals in these products are so strong, their scent can last on your body for days. That alone is an obvious sign that the product should NOT be on or in your body. By signing this petition, you demand that the US government ban the production and sale of this extremely harmful type of feminine hygiene product and hold companies like Always accountable for the heinous and very real crime of knowingly endangering women’s bodies and health. Companies like Always that sell these known toxic products are in blatant violation of the FTC act, product liability laws and consumer protection laws. Continuing to sell a product that the company knows is toxic is willful endangerment of the public and they MUST be held criminally liable for intentionally causing harm. These companies are knowingly poisoning us, and we will NOT stand for it!

Below is a list of parent companies that knowingly sell toxic period products in the United States, have been sued for selling toxic period products, or have conducted any sort of shady business practices surrounding period products. Please avoid buying ANY period products from these companies as most of them, even the unscented ones, contain toxic materials.

Procter & Gamble (Always and Tampax), Edgewell Personal Care (Playtex and Stayfree), Kimberly-Clark (Thinx, Kotex, Depend), The Honey Pot, L Organic (Organyc), Knix, Bodyform (Intima Period Panties), Modibodi, Rael, Unilever (Seventh Generation).

U by Kotex (Under Kimberly-Clark) is no longer legally allowed to sell scented products in the US but continues to do so in other countries.

Yes, that is EVERY major period product brand in the US. But before you feel hopeless about ever buying a period product again, know that there are companies out there that don't want to poison you. I've compiled a list of those, too, because I'm here for you, girlies.

Diva International Inc. (Diva Cup), Saalt, Cora, Lena, AllMatters/OrganiCup, Organic Initiative, Bodywise UK (Natracare), TOTM.

I would not personally recommend using August period products, not because they are harmful, but simply because they're not that high quality. Please remember that menstrual cups can cause toxic shock syndrome if left in for 12+ hours just like tampons.
