Having personally witnessed the brutal act of halal slaughter, I am deeply disturbed by the reality of this practice that is legal across Australia. The moment when the knife is drawn and the animal struggles for life while slowly bleeding out is harrowing and undeniably cruel. It is an experience that forces us to confront the painful truth that such practices are condoned within our modern society. Animals deserve respect and humane treatment, yet the practice of halal allows for unnecessary suffering and distress.

In Australia, where we pride ourselves on our progressive stance towards animal welfare, it is shocking that halal slaughter, which eschews stunning the animal before its throat is slit, is permitted. The lack of stunning means that many animals experience pain and fear in their final moments—a process witnessed and documented as severely distressing by various animal rights organizations. Studies have shown that animals slaughtered without pre-stunning can remain conscious for up to two minutes after their throats are cut, leading to prolonged suffering.

The fact that other methods—ones that prioritize the humane treatment of animals—are available and widely used makes the allowance of halal slaughter even more unacceptable. More than 37 countries worldwide, including Switzerland and Denmark, have taken definitive steps to ban the slaughter of animals without pre-stunning, recognizing the cruelty inherent in the process. Australia should follow in the footsteps of nations leading the way in animal welfare and consider legislation that requires the stunning of all animals prior to slaughter.

While respecting religious practices is important, it is equally essential to ensure that such practices do not result in cruelty or harm. The introduction of stunning requirements does not mean an outright ban on halal meat; rather, it seeks to reconcile religious practices with our collective ethical commitment to humane treatment of animals.

Numerous reports and eyewitness accounts corroborate the cruel nature of halal slaughter under current regulations. These accounts provide a compelling case for reform.

Aside from this cruel practice associated with Islamic fundamentals its time we stood up to ban this completely in our Western democracies.  It has been forced upon us to apiece an ideology that does not fit into out demographics.  Islam is not a religion of peace it is one of hate towards Jewish people and Christians alike. This is one way to fight against this disease that is Islam,  if we can stop Halal meats then it forces the Muslims to retract, we must stand up and fight.
