As someone who works closely with animals, I witness firsthand the distress and discomfort they experience during traditional firework displays. The loud noises and explosions cause significant fear and anxiety in animals, leaving them confused and terrified as they cannot comprehend what’s happening around them. Many pets often hide trembling under beds, some injure themselves trying to escape the noise, and, tragically, more sensitive animals have even suffered fatal heart attacks in extreme cases.

This unnecessary suffering is why I urge everyone to consider a kinder alternative: silent fireworks. Silent fireworks offer a brilliant pyrotechnic display that maintains all the joy and spectacle associated with traditional fireworks but without the deafening noise that frightens wildlife, pets, and those with trauma.

Statistics from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals indicate that roughly 45% of dogs show signs of fear when they hear fireworks, not to mention the distress it causes to farm animals and wildlife. In contemporary Europe, an increasing number of towns and cities, such as Collecchio in Italy, have already set a precedent by adopting silent fireworks, significantly reducing distress to animals while ensuring festive celebrations continue undisturbed. We can and should follow their commendable example.

Unfortunately, silent fireworks are not yet widely utilized and the costs can be slightly higher, but with an increased demand, costs are expected to decrease, making them more accessible. Therefore, it’s crucial for individuals, communities, and local governments to play their part by choosing this compassionate alternative.

I implore those in power to legislate and promote the purchase and widespread use of silent fireworks for all public and private celebrations. Together, let's prioritize the well-being of our beloved animals while celebrating responsibly.
