Ban 'Take Us North' from U.S. Sale

The Issue

This issue is personal for me, as I'm concerned about limitations on consumer choices and the influence of media on societal issues. It's frustrating when games like 'Take Us North,' developed by Anima Interactive with early-stage financial support from Microsoft Xbox, promote narratives that some, including myself, believe normalize undocumented border crossings—a practice that can involve illegal immigration and challenge U.S. law and order.

The game, led by Karla Reyes, founder and creative director of Anima Interactive and a former employee of Visa (from 2015 to 2018), is a narrative-driven adventure/survival title that follows the journeys of migrants and asylum seekers attempting to cross the US-Mexico border. It draws from real stories to foster empathy and awareness, including gameplay elements like evading Border Patrol and navigating perilous terrain. While developers emphasize humanizing experiences, critics argue it subtly endorses actions that undermine immigration laws.

I support freedom of expression, but believe boundaries are needed for content that could contribute to societal harm or divisive views on immigration. Payment processors like Visa have restricted transactions for certain high-risk categories, such as adult-oriented games, showing that scrutiny on content is possible. Similar oversight should apply to games with real-world implications like 'Take Us North,' which successfully raised over $55,000 on Kickstarter in July 2025 and is in ongoing development for PC and consoles.

This petition calls for preventing the distribution and sale of 'Take Us North' in the United States amid ongoing debates on immigration policy and national security. With tensions high, such media could exacerbate divisions rather than unite communities.

I urge local authorities, retail platforms, and the public to consider the game's themes and prioritize shared values over commercial interests. It's more than entertainment—it's about the messages we amplify. Sign this petition to support a ban on the sale of 'Take Us North' in the United States and safeguard against potentially misleading narratives.
