Hi everyone,

Happy Halloween! 🎃🐝

We’ve reached 418 signatures, more than doubling our support in just six days!

What started with the discovery of bees trapped in artificial Halloween spiderwebs in Kensington has now grown into a campaign supported by more than 400 people, with 214 petition shares and nine generous supporters helping spread our message.

Thank you to everyone who has signed, shared, contributed or helped raise awareness. It’s encouraging to see so many people coming together to protect wildlife.

But today is also a reminder of why this campaign matters.

Across Australia, Halloween decorations are going up while our native birds are nesting, bees are pollinating and other wildlife are going about their lives.

A decoration that brings a few days of enjoyment shouldn’t leave animals injured or dead.

And while Halloween ends tonight, the danger doesn’t necessarily disappear tomorrow. Synthetic webbing can remain tangled in gardens, trees and bushes long after the celebrations are over.

So, what’s next for Ban Fake Webs?

Our next step is to take this campaign beyond Change.org and into the political process.

I’m preparing to pursue an official petition through the Victorian Parliament, alongside presenting the support we’ve already gathered to decision-makers.

Our objective remains a ban on the sale and supply of loose, stretchable synthetic Halloween spiderwebs in Victoria, together with restrictions on their outdoor use.

Our goal is to make Victoria the first state to introduce these protections, setting an example for every other Australian state and territory to follow.

We’re now just 82 signatures away from 500.

Please keep sharing this petition with friends, family and community groups. Every new supporter helps strengthen the case we’ll be taking to government.

What began as a distressing experience in one Melbourne street has become a growing campaign for wildlife protection.

Halloween lasts one night. Protecting wildlife should matter all year.
