The Issue

Why This Matters
Every piece of plastic produced, purchased, and discarded drives up global temperatures and releases toxic pollution into our environment.

Under the UN Paris Agreement, 195 countries—including Malaysia—committed to limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Scientists warn that crossing this threshold disrupts the natural ecological systems that keep our weather stable.

We are already witnessing the consequences: severe floods, heatwaves, compromised food supplies, and worsening air quality. If we allow temperatures to rise further, extreme weather will become unbearable, potentially displacing up to 1 billion people worldwide over the next 15 years.

Change starts locally. Studies show that when just 3.5% of a population takes action, it creates a tipping point for permanent societal and policy change. In Penang, 3.5% of our population is roughly 53,000 people. If 53,000 of us stand together, we can drive significant policy changes for our island and inspire the rest of the country.
