As you can see there were an incredible number of submissions against the Coxs Bay helicopter application that were sent to Auckland Council in November 2024. The red dots on the map clearly show the Westmere, Coxs Bay, Pt Chevalier, Herne Bay and Grey Lynn communities do not want private use helicopters in their neighbourhoods. The 4 volumes of submissions can be found here.
The Applicant believes they should be allowed to breach noise standards and fly a helicopter in and out of quiet neighbourhoods 4x a day, 7 days a week. They have ignored the community’s widespread opposition and the Council's planner's recommendation that this application be declined and are proceeding regardless.
Quiet Sky Waitematā is preparing for the public hearing in May 2025 when a panel of Duty Commissioners, appointed by the Council, will decide on the application.
For three years we’ve worked with expert specialists - an ecologist, a planner, an acoustic expert and a lawyer. To challenge this application successfully it is vital they present expert evidence for us at the hearing.
The projected costs are $94,250. QSW members and community members have pledged $54,500. If we cannot raise the shortfall the Applicant’s voice will be the loudest in the room.
We are urging everyone we know to get in touch if they know of any trusts, foundations or individuals who may be able to support the cause.
