Australia is being held back on climate action by a political system flooded with donations from fossil fuel companies and vested interests. We call on the Australian Government to ban all political donations and adopt a publicly funded election system — because our planet should not be for sale.

Australia is on the front lines of the climate crisis — bushfires, floods, and extreme heat are becoming the new normal. Yet, despite the urgency, our political system continues to stall, water down, or outright block meaningful climate action. Why? Because the fossil fuel industry and other big polluters are buying influence through political donations.

These donations are legalised bribery. Every year, coal, oil, and gas companies funnel millions into the pockets of political parties, ensuring their profits are protected while the planet burns. This is not democracy — it’s a rigged system where those who do the most damage have the loudest voice.

It’s time to end this toxic relationship between money and politics.

We call on the Australian Government to:

1. Ban all political donations — from corporations, unions, lobbyists, and private individuals.
2. Introduce a publicly funded election model that ensures a level playing field and prioritises the public interest.
3. Hold politicians accountable by increasing transparency around lobbying and enforcing real consequences for corruption.
4. Put our children, the people and planet first — not profit margins.

A clean democracy is essential for a clean energy future. Real climate action will never be possible while our leaders are bankrolled by those who benefit from the status quo.
