I have witnessed rabbits being abandoned and neglected around Easter since I was little. Families frequently buy rabbits for Easter festivities without researching how to properly care for them. Rabbits have needs that require significant effort, time and money, which many owners are ill prepared to give.

80% of rabbits bought as pets near Easter are abandoned or die within a year. Every year rabbit sales increase more than the previous years and shelters are overwhelmed. These statistics are shocking and we have a responsibility to change them. Domesticated rabbits are unable to survive in the wild as they are pets. Imagine someone dropping you off in the middle of the woods with nothing and no way to get back to the comforts you have known. This is simply animal cruelty, and must be addressed.
