Ban Octopus Farming in Pennsylvania Now

Ban Octopus Farming in Pennsylvania Now
The Issue
Hello, my name is Gizelle Phillips and I am a Freshman in high school. For my Bio Project regarding the United Nations' sustainability goals, I decided to do a petition and a booklet on the INHUMANE and ENVIRONMENTALLY DAMAGING affects of Octopus farming.
However, this goes beyond a school project; even if I didn't have to do this for school I would still be doing it anyway, because Octopus farming, though not currently taking place in Pennsylvania, poses a significant threat to both animal welfare and our ecosystems. Scientific research has demonstrated that octopuses are one of the most intelligent sea creatures, capable of experiencing pain and distress. Octopuses live their life in SOLITUDE and spend their years exploring the Ocean. Just putting them with other Octopuses or confining them to solitary small spaces is VERY inhumane. Farming them, just for human consumption, involves confining them to small and unnatural environments which makes them so stressed that they resort to CANNIBALISM. In other words, they go insane.
Even though the United States has not considered this practice, other countries; like Mexico, have and are planning out these farms as we speak.
Furthermore, the ENVIRONMENTAL impact of Octopus farms could be devastating. Octopus farming demands immense resources, including large quantities of food and space, and it produces considerable waste. This could lead to pollution and degradation of our natural habitats, which we have worked so hard to conserve in Pennsylvania.
It's crucially important that we take proactive measures now to ensure octopus farming never becomes a reality in our state. We need to stand together to protect our environment and promote humane treatment of animals, setting an example for responsible and ethical stewardship of our natural world.
I hope that this petition will reach Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, urging him to see the detrimental effects of octopus farming and to officially place a ban on this practice before it even begins.
Please join me in safeguarding the beauty and integrity of our Pennsylvania by signing this petition and sharing it to as many people as you can. Together, we can send a powerful message that animal cruelty has no place in our community or even our world, and our environment deserves protection.
