The Issue

For many years, the red and black poppy has been a symbol of remembrance and respect for those brave men and women who lost their lives in military battles defending our freedom. Its traditional red and black colors symbolize the blood shed on the battlefields and the deep mourning we feel for our fallen heroes. However, the increasing trend of altering the poppy's colours for propaganda purposes dilutes its significant meaning and disrespectfully manipulates a sacred symbol for various unrelated causes.

Allowing variations of the poppy symbol in different hues undermines the original purpose it stands for, which is to honour military sacrifices and heroes. This misuse diverts attention from the critical historical context and the specific remembrance it is meant to evoke. It's essential that we uphold the integrity of this symbol by preserving its traditional colors.

Statistics from the Royal British Legion highlight that the original poppy campaigns generate significant funds for veterans' charities, providing vital support services such as mental health counseling, employment assistance, and housing. By maintaining the integrity of the poppy, we not only honor our past but also continue to support those who served.

Our goal is straightforward: to prohibit the use of non-traditional colors for the poppy symbol to prevent its exploitation as a tool for various propagandas. This call for change aims to preserve the dignity and focused purpose of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance for military sacrifices.

We urge local councils and national governments to implement regulations that enforce this color integrity, ensuring that our remembrance symbols are respected and maintained as intended.

Please join us in signing this petition to protect the sanctity of our remembrance symbols. Let us honor our military heroes appropriately by preserving the red and black poppies' enduring legacy.
