The Issue

Dallas city leaders must take action to keep minors out of sexually themed drag performances and other adult-oriented shows. Events featuring provocative dancing, explicit language, and sexual content are not appropriate for children. Yet in recent months, kids have been allowed into venues where drag performers accepted cash tips under neon signs with sexual innuendos, all while alcohol was being served.

One example is the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event held at Mr. Misster, a Dallas gay bar. Despite being billed as family-friendly, the event featured adult performances in a bar environment, with children in the audience and even on stage. Videos showed suggestive dancing and adult humor in front of minors. This crosses a line that the city cannot ignore.

This petition is not an attack on drag or on LGBTQ+ communities. It is a call for common-sense boundaries that protect children from exposure to adult entertainment. Just as movie theaters and clubs have age restrictions, live performances featuring sexual content should be designated as adult-only and off-limits to minors.

We are urging the Dallas City Council and Mayor Eric Johnson to pass a city ordinance that prohibits children from attending any sexually themed drag performances or adult shows. These events should be classified as 21 and up and enforced with appropriate penalties for violations. Parents deserve the confidence that their children will not be exposed to explicit material in public venues under the label of "family-friendly" entertainment.

Protecting minors is a basic community responsibility. Dallas must act now to create clear boundaries around sexually explicit content and prevent children from being placed in adult environments, regardless of the venue or type of performer. This is about safety, not censorship.
