Ban loud fireworks to protect animals

Ban loud fireworks to protect animals
The Issue
Loud banging fireworks are not just an auditory spectacle for many, they are a source of fear and distress for countless animals. Both wildlife and domesticated animals are profoundly affected by the deafening noise caused by fireworks, creating an urgent need for this petition. Animals, with their heightened sense of hearing, find the explosive sounds terrifying, leading to panic, disorientation, and sometimes even injury as they flee to escape perceived dangers.
Wildlife is especially vulnerable during firework displays. Birds, small mammals, and other creatures may abandon their nests or burrows, exposing themselves and their young to predators and the elements. Studies have shown an increase in wildlife mortality around areas where fireworks are commonly used, with several incidents recorded of animals being startled into dangerous situations, such as flying into obstacles like buildings or cars in a state of panic.
Our cherished pets, too, suffer immensely. Reports from veterinary clinics frequently mention cases of anxiety, lost pets who run away from their homes in fear, and even animals who have suffered cardiac events triggered by the stress of loud fireworks. While some pets can be somewhat shielded indoors, the extreme noise often penetrates into homes, leaving them nowhere to hide.
In many communities, there are fireworks laws that are outdated and not aligned with current understanding of animal welfare. We propose regulations that would either ban or severely limit the use of loud fireworks, encouraging instead the use of low-noise alternatives such as silent fireworks. Several cities around the world have successfully implemented such measures, greatly reducing the impact on animals without sacrificing the celebratory nature of fireworks.
We need action now to protect the voiceless. By signing this petition, you can help urge our city councils and legislators to make compassionate choices that consider the well-being of all living creatures. The implementation of this ban will not only protect our pets and wildlife but will also promote a more harmonious coexistence amongst all species and humans.
Please sign this petition to call for a change that ensures festivities do not come at the cost of animal welfare.
