Ban Kratom 7 OH in Arizona

Ban Kratom 7 OH in Arizona
The Issue
In Arizona, a growing concern is taking root—a substance called kratom is affecting the lives of many in our communities, including those I deeply care about. Despite being marketed as a herbal supplement with supposed health benefits, kratom is increasingly being identified as a substance that has addictive potential, particularly the variant known as kratom 7-oh, which is alarmingly similar in effect to strong narcotics like morphine.
Kratom contains compounds that bind to opioid receptors in the brain, leading to sedation, pleasure, and decreased pain, but also resulting in dependency, withdrawal symptoms, and a host of other potentially life-altering side effects. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), regular users can exhibit symptoms like nausea, vomiting, aggression, hallucinations, and seizures. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has also warned about major safety concerns related to its use.
Currently, kratom is legal in our state, making it readily accessible, and leading more people, whether intentionally or inadvertently, to its addictive path. There have been numerous accounts and research pointing towards its role in life-threatening conditions and even fatalities when combined with other substances.
The call for action is imperative. By banning kratom, we can prevent further addiction, alleviate the anguish of affected families, and safeguard our state's public health. The evidence is clear, the stories distressing, and the risks too significant to ignore.
Join me in urging Arizona state legislators to take immediate action and ban the sale and possession of kratom. Let's prioritize the well-being of our loved ones and community. Please sign this petition to help make Arizona safer for everyone.
