Locals in Agriculture Minister Michael Creed’s native County Cork are “TOTALLY SUPPORTIVE” of a ban on cruel fur farming.
Mark Cronin of the Cork Greens - which hosts a weekly Ban Fur Farming stall in the city - told ICABS: “We have been having a great response from the people of Cork. We have a stall every Saturday on the main street of Cork, Patrick's Street, since last July. People are constantly coming up to us expressing shock that this is actually happening in Ireland. People can't believe that animals are treated so cruelly for fashion items. They are totally supportive of the campaign and that support has enabled us to carry on.”
“If there was a referendum on the issue, fur farming would end for certain,” he added. “All we need are the politicians to listen and heed their wish.”
There are three fur farms remaining in Ireland where an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 mink are caged and gassed to death every year.
The people of Cork are among the vast majority of Irish citizens who want fur farming outlawed. A recent Red C opinion poll confirmed that 80% are in favour of a ban.
It’s time for Minister Michael Creed (Fine Gael, Cork North West) to respect the wishes of the majority and introduce a long overdue ban on this cruel practice.
A Fur Farming Prohibition Bill introduced by Solidarity last year will return to Dail Eireann on 2nd July, with TDs voting on it on 4th July. Please contact Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Agriculture Minister Michael Creed and all your local TDs now to urge them to support this bill.
