Ban Firework Displays at the V&A Waterfront to Protect Animal Welfare
The Issue
Join the Cause: Silencing the Bangs for the Voiceless!
To all animal advocates and those with a heart for these voiceless beings, this petition is for YOU.
I'm Milla, on a mission for change. My love for animals, big and small, has been unwavering since a young age, and it continues to deepen at the age of 16. While I aspire to become a veterinarian in the future, a pressing matter demands our attention – the urgent need to cease distressing fireworks that harm animals, cause injuries, and contribute to environmental damage. I can't simply stand by, so here's a petition.
Animal Injuries and Escapes: As a passionate animal advocate and devoted pet owner, I've witnessed the unsettling impact of loud fireworks at V&A Waterfront on pets and wildlife. The loud bangs not only induce anxiety but can also result in tragic injuries. Moreover, the disorienting noise can lead anxious animals to escape homes, contributing to a heartbreaking rise in strays.
Environmental Impact: Yet, it goes beyond that – it's a matter of the environment suffering for the fleeting allure of lights.
The issues extend beyond our homes. Seals at the mall, wildlife, and creatures in places like the Two Oceans Aquarium, Reptile World, and The WOOF Project, alongside pets in proximity, bear the brunt. It's disheartening to witness a place preaching sustainability fall short in practice. Moreover, the use of fireworks by prominent venues sets an undesirable precedent, suggesting that engaging in harmful practices is acceptable.
Facts: In South Africa, thousands of animals experience distress due to fireworks each year (source: Cape of Good Hope SPCA). Additionally, fireworks contribute to air and water pollution, containing substances harmful to our environment (source: Environmental Science & Technology).
Let's ponder – is a brief moment of revelry worth the anxiety for animals, the risk of injuries, and the toll on our environment? We urge decision-makers at V&A Waterfront to cease fireworks, even if it may bring them profits at the expense of animals and our shared home.
Sign this petition if you believe in prioritizing the well-being of animals and our environment over fleeting amusement. Together, let's pave the way for a safer and more compassionate tomorrow! #SilenceTheBangs #GreenPetition
