Ban Dog Breeding in the United States

The Issue

Trying to put a number on the dogs at risk of euth in shelters in America is like trying to count grains of sand at the beach. Hundreds of thousands of innocent lives are tragically lost in kill shelters across our country each year. The number of dogs desperately in need of homes is overwhelming, and, heartbreakingly, it seems endless. The reality of it all is vastly under reported as well.  Many shelters cannot or do not report their correct data. Pregnant mom dogs are dumped and have whole litters of pups that die in the shelter walls before ever seeing the light of day. Dogs are put down before a rescue is even able to see they are in need.

Population control for dogs is a serious issue in our society. The central cause is for-profit dog breeding. According to ASPCA, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter U.S shelters each year, a staggering proportion of which are euthanized due to overcrowding and limited resources. WHY are any dogs being bred while this staggering amount of healthy available dogs are overflowing in shelters? This should not be the reality for man's best friend.

It's time we put an end to the heartless cycle of exhaustive breeding and tragic abandonment of dogs. I am urging the United States government to introduce stringent laws that discourages and strictly penalizes dog breeding and abandonment. Let us hold these irresponsible breeders accountable for their actions. We can stop this crisis at its root. The lives of countless canine companions depend on us to act. We need to ban illegal breeding, enforce strick consequences and pause all legal begging until shelters and rescues across the US are able to function without all of the senseless euthanasia. No shelter employee wants to force a dog across that rainbow end. With how things are now, they have to.

Let your signature be their voice. Sign this petition to outlaw dog breeding in the US. Let's show that every life deserves a chance at happiness. No dog deserves what we are doing to the canine species as a whole. There are enough dogs available in shelters for breeders to never have the need to provide another pup. Together we can end this!
