My heart aches because someone I know has become a victim of online exploitation. This horrendous situation unfolded on platforms like Discord and Roblox, which are unfortunately becoming breeding grounds for predators targeting innocent children. While the authorities are involved, and investigations are ongoing, it is clear that more must be done to protect our youth from such dangers.

Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram are already under scrutiny, but we cannot ignore the growing risks associated with Discord and Roblox. These platforms are notorious for providing anonymity to users, creating an unsafe environment where predators can easily masquerade as children or teenagers. Despite attempts to separate younger and older users, predators continuously create fake accounts, expertly blending in to exploit our most vulnerable.

According to a National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children report, there has been a significant rise in online grooming cases involving children, with many incidents occurring on Roblox but no one is listening no one even listened to the YouTuber schlep, Roblox itself even banned him from the platform because they can’t come to terms that their platform is just for predators to roam around and talk to underage children. The statistics are alarming, and it is evident that immediate action is required to safeguard our children from falling into the trap of online exploitation.

Banning these platforms for users under 16 years old can significantly reduce their risk of encountering online predators. Although this measure may not be foolproof, it serves as a crucial step in limiting children’s exposure to potential dangers and creating a safer online space.

We must urge policymakers and technology companies to recognize the severity of the issue. By enforcing an age restriction across all social media and gaming platforms, we can better protect the young minds of today from the traumatic experiences that online exploitation brings.
