An estimated 100 million sharks are killed every year, supporting a destructive market driven by their valuable livers, which produce squalene, and the demand for their meat. The commercial fishing industry, driven by profit, continues to exploit these magnificent creatures without restraint, depleting shark populations to an unsustainable level. We need urgent action to regulate these practices. DEFRA must be held accountable for the misleading labeling that disguises shark meat and fuels this trade.
