North Carolina appears to have become a free-for-all for the NC Home Builders Association.

Many Elected Officials who SPONSOR and/or Vote for legislation favorable to developers, are One in the same!

The Wolves are IN the hen house and they ARE ruling the roost in Raleigh. It is up to Us to get them out.

PETITION TO MANDATE BRUNSWICK COUNTY TO AMEND THE UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE TO BAN CLEAR CUTTING

Clear cutting is a development practice that involves the removal of all trees in a given area leading to significant environmental impacts. In Brunswick County, this practice is currently permitted in the Unified Development Ordinance.

On 2/20/2023 Brunswick County Commissioners adopted Blueprint Brunswick 2040 including policies pledging to:

• Conserve the natural resources of the county

• Maintain the “green” of Brunswick County as development continues

• Maintain and mitigate the impacts of storm water run-off from development

• Hold private developers and other real estate developers to a higher standard

The only way these "pledges" can be achieved is by amending or rewriting its Unified Development Ordinance to prohibit clear cutting - NOW

As Brunswick County is experiencing rapid development, we urge residents who care about RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT to sign this petition which demands that:

The County immediately pursue special legislation from the State to obtain the authority to enable the adoption of a tree preservation ordinance and the resources to enforce it.

The County must also adopt a moratorium on development while seeking the aforementioned enabling authority.
