Actor and environmentalist Rachel Pilkington has renewed her calls for a ban on cruel fox hunting.
"I live in rural Ireland and I am vehemently opposed to fox hunting - it is a cruel, barbaric, one-sided excuse for a sport,” she said in a statement. “Deep reflection is urgently needed on the parts of those who continue to condone or perpetuate such deplorable, rural pursuits.”
“How can an activity or tradition that traumatises and causes bodily harm to native wildlife be defended or even justified in a progressive society?” Rachel asked.
She went on to say that she is calling on political leaders and legislators to "bring about an immediate ban on fox hunting in this country.”
“If you are in a position of power or privilege, if you have a public platform in any capacity, please use your voice and your compassion today so that we can collectively stand on the right side of history by preventing such atrocities from continuing," she added.
