Foxes were terrorised by a pack of 25 dogs during a shameful hunt in County Meath.
A report in the Irish Field (17 January 2025) outlined that at the Tara Harriers hunt, the first fox was chased in a “circular run” which ended at the Borrowaddy Road.
Later, “the huntsman had the pack onto a fox quickly”. In running for his life, this unfortunate fox “gave them a good spin in a loop over Walsh’s and more yawners of ditches to negotiate in Carolin’s to the back of the mushroom farm”. The fox then “ran left-handed by McAuley’s, who are well-known animal meal suppliers, where he headed back and to ground in The Jungle.”
The next fox targeted was found in Johnny Finnegan’s Plantings and he “ran the Delvin River bank, checking just short of Balrath Wood”.
The fate of this fox was not revealed.
Shame on the Irish Government for allowing fox hunting to continue in 2025. A RED C opinion poll, commissioned by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, shows that a 77% majority (in both urban and rural areas) agree that the government should ban fox hunting. The poll found that just 12 per cent disagree with a ban.
DID YOU KNOW? Irish taxpayer-funded Horse Racing Ireland has handed out €13,796,550 to hunts since 2014 (in the form of point-to-point racing grants), including over €1.7 million in 2024. The Tara Harriers, along with the Meath Foxhounds, have received over €238,000.
