A Fine Gael Councillor and candidate in the upcoming local elections has shamefully expressed support for cruel fox hunting.
In a Facebook post in February, Cllr PJ Murphy (Fine Gael, Galway County Council) stated: "Long may the tradition [fox hunting] live on in South Galway."

In a page on the Fine Gael website, Cllr Murphy is listed as a candidate in the Gort-Kinvara electoral area in the June elections https://www.finegael.ie/our-people/local-election-candidates/galway/galway-county/gort-kinvara/p-j-murphy/
Murphy is very much in the minority in his support for fox hunting. The vast majority in Ireland want the bloodsport banned. A 2019 RED C opinion poll confirmed that 77 per cent favour a ban, with just 12 per cent disagreeing with a ban.
