Petition updateBan Battery Cages in British ColumbiaWhat the Green-NDP agreement means for us

Friends, It just gets better and better! Andrew Weaver and the BC Greens have made an agreement with John Horgan and the BC NDP to support the NDP in a confidence vote. This will give the NDP a minority government come Fall, with the Greens still holding the balance of power. This has drastically improved our odds to ban battery cages because Lana Popham (NDP MLA and supporter of our petition) will very likely become the Minister of Agriculture. That will give Lana control over the Agriculture sector of the BC Government, meaning she can completely ban battery cages through the inner works of the Government. I’m quite thrilled about this agreement because Lana Popham is a big supporter of our cause and animal welfare causes as a whole. I trust that she will enact on this initiative with the interest of BC’s hens as her priority. The two key points I will push for when consulting with Lana (and Andrew Weaver) on this will be: 1. To ensure a ban of all cages (battery cages and enriched cages) 2. To ensure an efficient timeline. I will push for cage-free by 2020 - 2022. Thank you all for your continued support.
