At this stage, I wanted to crystallise what I think is being mostly overlooked in this debate:
AI is not simply a copyright issue, it is a data protection one.
The EU and the UK follow GDPR. One of its core tenets is that you have to give informed consent to the use of your data. Given this, it is difficult to see how AI can operate in most of Europe. There is already a standoff between the courts in Italy and OpenAI, where it has ceased operating:

Personally, I will be contacting the Information Commissioner’s Office to ask how thy are applying the law.
