Ban Animal Testing in the United States
Ban Animal Testing in the United States
The Issue
Animal testing is cruel, inhumane and must stop. Millions of animals in painful experiments and eventually killed in the pursuit because of cosmetic and research. These innocent animals suffer experiencing physical and emotional stress. It’s time we recognize them as the loving animals and not test subject.
An estimated 10 million animals die from abuse or cruelty every year in the United States. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane, and must stop. There are many different forms of animal testing and different experiments. A few of the saddest animal tests are Sensory-Deprivation Experiment on a Baby Monkey, Drilling Holes Into Young Beagles’ Skull, Cut Baboons’ Eyes Out, and Animals Beheaded With Kitchen Scissors.
According to PETA it says that an experiment constructed by Margaret Livingstone, a Harvard University experimenter, spent 40 years hurting animals. One example was to separate a baby monkey from its mom and sew their eyes shut. This was to see how badly the baby monkeys' brain and visual development would be. This is just one out of many examples of cruel animals testing.
Drilling holes into a young beagles’ skull was an experiment conducted in Liberty Research, Inc—a laboratory in New York. They would drill holes into a beagle's skull so a virus could be injected into their head. All the pain from this experiment caused some dogs to bang their head against the wall causing blood to bleed from their wounds. Some dogs had foam in their mouths and others had seizures. When the experiment was over they killed all of the dogs.
At Columbia University, an experiment was constructed involving cutting Baboons’ Eyes Out. When the experiment was done, Baboos were still conscious. According to the PETA it states, “the arteries to their brains were clamped in a crude procedure intended to induce strokes.” One espermenter implanted steel pipes in monkeys’ heads to observe the effects of stress on their menstrual cycles. Another experiment that involved Baboons was when they would get pregnant Baboons and give them backpacks that pumped nicotine to give them birth defects.
According to PETA it states, “ Mice and rats who had been inadequately gassed or undergone improper cervical dislocation (neck-breaking) were still alive in a cooler used to store dead animals.” This was performed at the University of North Carolina. They performed many experiments, one including cutting off the heads of rats and removing their brain with kitchen scissors.
Why exactly are these experiments done? Maybe just to harm animals? Maybe for scientific purposes, but if so, why do they need to know how an animal reacts when they sew their eyes shut or when they cut off the head of an animal? EIther way, animal testing is cruel and inhumane and must stop.
