The uk government say, animal testing in science is set to be phased out faster under a new plan to deliver on the government’s manifesto commitment, unveiled by Science Minister Lord Vallance, Tuesday 11 November.

The comprehensive roadmap backs researchers to seize on new and developing opportunities to replace certain animal tests, which are currently still used – where necessary – to determine the safety of products like life-saving vaccines and the impact chemicals like pesticides can have on living beings and the environment.

New funding has been put towards this cause around £75 million to help bring forward new testing methods for products that can save lives, rather than being a harm to the lives of innocent animals in the process.

America is seeing a major shift in animal testing, driven by the 2022
FDA Modernization Act 2.0, which ended mandatory animal testing for new drugs, leading to an FDA roadmap (April 2025) phasing out animal studies in favor of human-relevant methods like AI and organ-on-chips, while agencies like the NIH and CDC are also cutting back, though millions of animals are still used annually, with some advocating for faster adoption of alternatives.

Thank you to everyone who’s signed the petition, hopefully soon we’ll have improved systems to protect the welfare of animals big and small!!!
