Ban all the use of fireworks in the UK

Ban all the use of fireworks in the UK
The Issue
Every year, as Guy Fawkes Night approaches, the excitement is often marred by fear and anxiety in my household. The deafening explosions and bright flashes of fireworks may be exhilarating for some, but for many others, including our beloved pets and vulnerable members of the community, these moments are nothing short of terrifying.
I remember a specific instance when our family dog was so frightened by the incessant fireworks that she hid under the bed for hours, trembling and refusing to eat. It broke my heart to see her in such distress, and I know countless other pets suffer similarly during these times. But it’s not only pets that are affected; people with PTSD, young children, and the elderly also struggle immensely with the unpredictable noise and commotion.
Aside from the distress caused, there is an alarming increase in incidents where fireworks are misused to inflict harm or cause chaos. It’s shocking to see groups of people using fireworks to throw at each other, risking severe injuries and sometimes even worse. The availability of fireworks to the public makes it far too easy for these incidents to occur.
Statistics have shown a rise in fireworks-related injuries year on year. According to the NHS, hundreds of people are treated for fireworks injuries each year, with injuries ranging from burns to life-threatening trauma. Despite these dangers, fireworks remain freely available for purchase by just about anyone.
We must act now to prevent further harm to our community. We urge the UK government to enforce a complete ban on the sale and use of fireworks by the public. They should only be allowed at authorised, professional displays where safety measures can be appropriately managed.
By signing this petition, you are taking a stand to protect our communities from unnecessary harm and distress. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer environment for all. Please support this cause and help us urge the government to take immediate action towards banning fireworks. Sign the petition today to safeguard our wellbeing and that of our furry friends.
