STOP smart doorbells from invading privacy and breaching basic human rights in the UK!

The Issue

Every time I leave my house, I am on camera. In an 8 minute walk, I have been on 25 cameras, one after the other. Not only am I being filmed but I am also being recorded by every one of these cameras. This is fast becoming the average day to day human experience, and we're all just accepting it like it's normal.

You cannot guarantee who is watching that footage/audio of you minding your own business, getting from A to B. Yet they know what you look like, your body language, how you dress, what you sound like, your conversations when walking with a friend/on the phone/talking to neighbours. There is not a minute of our days where we're not being listened to/watched in some way. Everywhere you look, there is a camera shoved in your face.

The doorbell cameras are never even installed properly. They're never placed facing only onto the owner's properties, but always pointing out on the street. And seeing as the cameras have a wide angle lens, it sees you approaching as you walk past on the pavement, and as you leave, and by the time you're out of shot of that camera, you're already approaching another one. How is this not a breach of privacy?!

This is a very CLEAR breach of the Human Rights Act, as shown here:

Article 8 of the Human Rights Act 1998 states that humans 'have the right to live your life with privacy and without interference by the state. It covers things like:

your sexuality
your body*
personal identity and how you look and dress*
forming and maintaining relationships with other people
how your personal information is held and protected*'

-You do not know what they are doing with this data,

-You do not know if the doorbell cameras are security safe (if they have been hacked etc.)

-You do not know who is seeing you walk past their camera every day - They know your exact route, how long you're out for, roughly what times you walk past (Especially for women, how is this safe? They've never been able to live safely, and now they have this to worry about too.)

-What about safeguarding children? Doorbell cameras being put up on doors outside of schools, where the children playing are in full view of the camera.

-There is no denying that there are people that are abusing this technology, only god knows what for. I dread to even think.

It's time some sort of law is introduced for these security cameras, including all brands of doorbell cameras, porch lamps etc.

Help me change the law by signing and sharing this petition, please :)
