Social media began as a way to stay in touch with others and share life experiences. But we’ve gone far beyond its original purpose, entering an era where entertainment has been overshadowed by the harmful influence it has on society.

We need to take a step back, look at the effects, and recognize when things have gone too far. We no longer have control over the information being fed to us, and often have no way of knowing its credibility without research. Meanwhile, AI capabilities are advancing at an alarming rate—already raising questions about the authenticity of videos—and this is only the beginning.

Social media’s influence is everywhere, and its impact on society has become undeniable. It has evolved into a platform where success is measured by likes and comments, often rewarding the content that sparks division. The more we feed into it, the deeper that divide becomes.

This petition is an attempt to stop things before they get worse. How bad does it have to get before we’re willing to sacrifice entertainment and “keeping in touch” for the betterment of society? I believe it’s time to turn it off.
