Ban All Ads on Apps, Games, and Streaming Services Targeted to Children Under 13

Ban All Ads on Apps, Games, and Streaming Services Targeted to Children Under 13
The Issue
As a parent of children under the age of 13, including those on the autism spectrum, I witness the daily challenges and adverse effects posed by ads in apps, games, and streaming services designed for children. The disturbing reality is that ad agencies do not pre-screen their content thoroughly. Thus, inappropriate ads, such as those for potentially harmful services like dating sites or platforms for adult content, manage to bypass filters and reach our vulnerable young ones.
Children are impressionable, curious, and invaluable members of society who deserve an experience free from the manipulative grasp of advertisers profiting from their innocence. We live in an increasingly digital world where technology surrounds us, making it more crucial than ever to establish safer digital spaces for our children. These environments should nurture learning, creativity, and fun without exposing kids to the commercial pressures and inappropriate materials that accompany unrestricted advertisements.
According to a study by Common Sense Media, children aged 8 to 12 in the United States spend an average of 4 hours and 44 minutes on screen media daily, with significant portions being bombarded with ads. If we don’t act, we allow the continued exploitation of our children's online presence for commercial gain, affecting their mental health and development.
Regulatory bodies must impose stricter guidelines banning advertisements on mobile apps, games, and streaming services targeted at children under 13. This action is an essential step toward protecting our youth from inappropriate content and the undue influence of advertisers. Technology companies and app developers need to prioritize child safety over profit margins.
Children under 13 should never be exposed to advertising in digital spaces. Ads manipulate young minds, push harmful content, and exploit their vulnerability for profit.
We call on lawmakers to enforce a complete ban on all advertising—targeted or general—on any app, game, website, or video service aimed at kids 13 and under.
It’s time we protect childhood from digital exploitation. Let kids be kids—ad-free.
We urge lawmakers and industry leaders to take decisive action against inappropriate advertising targeting children. Join me in fighting for a safer, ad-free digital environment for those who matter the most. Sign this petition to demand change for our children's well-being.
